Where It All Began
In 1958, Dennis and Edith Carlsen opened Bernina Stylish Fabrics. What began as a sewing and fabric store quickly became a trusted destination for craftsmanship, quality materials, and personal service.
For decades, the store carried Bernina machines, premium fabrics, and batting. As the textile world evolved, so did the offerings. In the early 2000s, minky became part of the assortment, introducing a new level of softness that customers immediately gravitated toward.
In 1991, Michael Carlsen took over the business, continuing the same standards that defined the store from the beginning.
The family retired and sold the business in 2024, closing a remarkable chapter. But the legacy did not end there.
Raised Around Craft
For our family, the store was more than a workplace. It was part of everyday life.
Fabric bolts lined the walls. Sewing machines hummed in the background. Texture was not theoretical. It was felt, tested, compared.
Blankets were not occasional purchases. They were everywhere.
Growing up surrounded by textiles creates a different kind of awareness. You notice weight. Drape. Fiber quality. The difference between surface softness and lasting softness.
Those lessons stayed.
A New Chapter, Same Standard
Lacati was founded by Brandon and Kylie Park to carry Kylie’s family textile legacy forward.
Kylie grew up in Bernina Stylish Fabrics, the store her grandparents opened in 1958 and her father continued in 1991. That lifelong exposure to fabric and craftsmanship defines the standard behind Lacati.
Rather than build another fabric store, Lacati was built around a single idea: create an exceptional blanket without compromise.
